RICHMOND YACHT CLUB JUNIOR PROGRAM MISSION
The mission of the Richmond Yacht Club Junior Program is to encourage the safe enjoyment of sailing for juniors of all ages and inclinations. The program is committed to developing a broad array of sailing skills and interests by focusing equally on Confidence, Competence and Competition.
The program reflects the values of the Richmond Yacht Club; a club that was “Built for Fun”.
RICHMOND YACHT CLUB OPTI RACE TEAM
GOALS:
- Have fun
- Sportsmanship
- Develop racing skills and techniques
- Become an active team member
FLEETS:
- GREEN FLEET FOCUS
- Understanding how to tie the basic knots and rig the boat without assistance
- Learn how to be towed
- Learn how to read Sailing Instructions and understand the different race courses
- Understand the basic rules of racing
- Become able to race in wind up to 10-12 knots
- Learn basic race skills and techniques
- Become able to finish in the top 10
- CHAMPIONSHIP FLEET FOCUS
- Learn how to tune boat at the dock and on the water
- Develop racing skills and techniques
- Understand the rules of racing and applying them on the water
- Become able to consistently race in all conditions
- Learn how to effectively work the starting line
- Learn how to read the race course with regard to which part of the start/finish line is favored, which side of the course is favored and why, and how to play the current
- Learn how to leverage your strengths on the race course
CLASSES AND REGATTAS FOR 2012/2013 SEASON
- Pre-Sunset Afternoon Practices on Fridays from 3:30 to 5:30 – Dates TBD
- Classes via the Richmond Yacht Club Junior Program – See Schedule for dates – Look for it in August 2012
- We will be participating in the Richmond Yacht Club Mid-Winter Series – See Schedule for dates
CLUB OPTI USAGE FEES AND COACHING FEES
- Using a club Opti for the Winter Junior Program is $XXX (covers maintenance & insurance)
- Using a club Opti for racing is $XX per race day IF the sailor is not currently in one of our programs

- Friday afternoon practice: 16 Fridays $240 per sailor
